While some skills may have unique values, the following are the default settings.

Most numbers in the Aytherfell RPG system are based on 10,000 which is the equivalent of 100.00%. If you have a skill at 9000 points, this is the equivalent of being 90% proficient in that skill.

1. Skill Tiers & Progression

All skills are divided into tiers, or stages, that represent your overall level of mastery.

Tier Name

Skill Value Range

XP Gain per Action

Decay Amount

Decay Interval

Tier 1 (Novice)

0-2500

10

1

1 week

Tier 2 (Practitioner)

2501-5000

5

2

3.5 days

Tier 3 (Professional)

5001-7500

2

3

1.75 days

Tier 4 (Expert)

7501-10000

1

4

~21 hours

2. Chance of Success

The chance of success for any action is calculated using your current skill level and the difficulty of the task.

Formula:
Success % = [Your Skill Value] / 10000

If your skill is at 5000, when divided by 10000, this yields a 50% chance of a successful skill check. For example, if this skill is in Mining (SK_MINING) and you are trying to harvest an Ore Vein, you would have a 50% chance of finding something of value, and a 50% chance of finding nothing.

3. The Mastery Cap

Mastered Skills Limit: The total value of all of your skills combined is currently set to 75,000.

Any skill gains that would exceed this cap will cause another skill to decay to maintain the limit.

If 75,000 points is the skill cap, this basically means you will have a maximum of seven skills at 100% with 5000 points scattered across your other skills. Of course, if you do not use a skill enough to have it reach 100%, then your 75,000 points may be more divided across all of your skills. A new character starts with zero skill points (at present).

4. Refocusing Your Mastery

While the mastery cap of seven skills encourages specialization, it does not permanently lock you into a role. A player character can choose to refocus their skills. By intentionally letting a mastered skill decay, you can create room to master a different skill. This is a significant endeavor and a great challenge for a player who wishes to change their path.

If you at first, focus on the Woodworking skill line, you can later decide to abandon your Woodworking skill line for, say, the Metalworking skill line. Simply by not using a skill and using another skill, your skill focus will shift. Presently in Aytherfell RPG, character classes and professions do not technically exist. Each of your skills would have a proficiency rating. You can be a Novice Miner and a Professional Carpenter, for example.

5. Skill Lines

There are sequences of skills, known as skill lines. However, there is not a special skill line notoriety, at the moment.

Metalworking:
Ore Vein <SK_MINING> Ore <SK_REFINING> Ounces <SK_SMELTING> Ingots <SK_BLACKSMITHING> Metal Products.

Jewelry Making:
Ore Vein <SK_MINING> Ore <SK_REFINING> Ounces <SK_JEWELER> Jewelry Products.

Woodworking:
Raw Log <SK_LUMBERJACKING> Log <SK_MILLING> Plank <SK_CARPENTRY> Wood Products.

Alchemy:
Plant <SK_HARVESTING> Herb <SK_HERBALING> Reagents <SK_ALCHEMY> Concoctions.

Clothier:
Plant <SK_HARVESTING> Fibers <SK_WEAVING> Bolts <SK_TAILORING> Clothing Products.

Provisioning (food):
Plant <SK_HARVESTING> Raw Ingredients <SK_FOODPREP> Prepared Ingredients <SK_COOKING> Food.

Provisioning (drink):
Plant <SK_HARVESTING> Raw Ingredients <SK_BREWING> Prepared Liquids <SK_DISTILLING> Drink.

Runecrafting:
Runestone <SK_RUNEMINING> Rune <SK_CODEXING> Rune Codex

Aythus Mining:
Aythus Node <SK_AYTHUSMINING> Aythus Stone <SK_AYTHUSREFINING> Aythus Block

Skills: More Detail This document contains the specific numbers that govern the Aytherfell RPG skill system.
